Why This Sound Bank Is Different: The tone of a synthesizer patch on an 80’s cover song is as important, and sometimes more important, than the notes being played. Good synth players in cover bands or tribute bands must get their sound to match the CD. We made a list of classic 1980’s rock and pop synth songs and programmed patches for those specific songs.
How We Programmed These: Every voice started as an initialized sound on a Yamaha synth, with no modification to the default parameters. We listened to the CD, one channel at a time, and started tweaking. Using the Yamaha synth’s internal ROM waves (there’s a lot to choose from), we tweaked the filters and envelopes and added whatever effects were required to get close to the CD sound. Frankly, this process sucks and takes a long, long time. We hope you find good use for the final product!
